July 6, 2007 CD Review: Tim Sway’s Colorful Debut
Wallingford resident, Tim Sway, recently released his debut album entitled “black, white & one other color”. Tim is a bassist by trade, and has performed with a number of local and commerical artists. On his debut album, Tim plays all of the instruments, except on two of the songs, in which his good friend Steve Tobey fills in on drums.
The music on this album grabs you right from the start with the song “Gill Bridge”. The song begins with a nice acoustic guitar introduction, then fills up with the other instumentation. Tim does a very good job harmonizing, which gives the songs a more fuller feel to them. The lyrics of this first song and others on this album are very storied and thought-provoking. My favorite songs on this album come early-on with tracks #3 (Her Soundtrack), which is a very catchy tune, #4 (Best I Can), which has a Jazz feel to it and #5 (We Only Borrow), which is probably the best song on the album. “While You’re Sleeping” has some very nice vocals and harmonizing that only adds to the music. The acoustic-oriented song “Pretty Noises”, which I can see being played at coffehouses or outdoor festivals, has a lot going on within such a simple song. The last song on the disc, “Sleepwalking Cliche”, as well as some others songs sound beautiful with just an acoustic guitar. The music on the album has a very concise, mature feel to it. Multiple playings of this disc will entice the audience to discover something new with each listen.
Tim Sway is currently perfoming with Jamie’s Junk Show. Check out jamiesjunkshow.com for show times and locations. Tim will be scheduling some solo dates for this upcoming fall. Tim Sway’s CD is available to purchase from his website, timsway.net and is also available at his live appearances. For music information, please visit JP’s Music Blog at myrecordjournal.com.
